The following requirements apply to students who declare a Political Science major in the Spring 2008 and thereafter.
1. Total hours required in political science courses: 36.
2. Lower division required courses: PSCI 1101, PSCI 2012, PSCI 2223, PSCI 2004
3. Total upper division hours required in Political Science courses: 21.
4. Upper division distribution requirement: One course in four of the following primary fields with at least two courses in one primary field (total 15 hours): American Politics, Comparative, International Relations, Theory, Methodology, and Policy. The remaining 6 hours may be applied to any field.
5. None of the 36 hours in required areas may be taken pass/fail.
6. A student must have a grade of C- or better in all 36 required hours in
Political Science and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better in Political Science.
7. Ancillary courses (they must be completed with a grad of C- or better): ECON 2010 (Microeconomics), ECON 2020 (Macroeconomics).
8. No more than 45 hours in Political Science credit will count toward
the Arts and Sciences graduation requirement of 120 hours (Core Curriculum) or 124 hours (College List).
This may be exceeded by 6 hours (for a total of 51 hours), provided that you are on the
Core Curriculum and the excess hours are taken in PSCI 4718 and/or honors thesis
credit.
